The governance case Republicans keep ignoring
A policy-focused conservative would argue —
Strip away the personality contest and ask who has actually delivered the MAGA agenda. DeSantis fought Covid mandates when it was costly, ran state-level immigration enforcement when Washington wouldn't, took on Disney and the corporate cultural complex, and is now out front on an AI bill of rights while voters tell pollsters they're alarmed about Silicon Valley's power over their lives. That is the platform Trump campaigned on, executed. The fact that he still gets dismissed as lacking 'aura' — that embodying the movement's mood is treated as more important than enacting its program — is the problem, not DeSantis. A movement that punishes its most effective governor for insufficient charisma is a movement that has confused theater for power, and it will keep losing the policy fights it claims to care about.

If this read like a fair rendering of the argument — even when you disagree — it's doing its job. Steelmen aren't aimed at persuading you; they're aimed at what the other side actually believes when they're thinking clearly.
